Gary
Herbert is your host, outfitter, guide and owner of New Zealand
Mountain Hunting Limited. Gary was first introduced to the guiding
industry in 1994 where he was employed by a New Zealand outfitting
company as a packer/guide. In November 1995 and at the age of
22 he formed the company, New Zealand Mountain Hunting Limited.
Gary is a member of the New Zealand Professional Hunting Guides
Association and in conjunction with his hunting operation in
New Zealand, has guided hunters through out the South Pacific,
North America, Asia, Europe and England.
New Zealand Mountain Hunting
Limited has the reputation
for providing international trophy hunters some of the best hunting
opportunities throughout New Zealand.
"We own our own hunting
area in the heart of the Southern Alps, located in one of the
best areas in New Zealand for Red Stag, Tahr, Chamois, Fallow
and Wapiti. In conjunction with our own ranch we also lease two
other ranches. Both these ranches have high numbers of resident
Stag, Whitetail and Fallow. By having three ranches to hunt on
we are not limited like most other New Zealand outfitting companies
to only being able to hunt on one property. This means we are
able to be more selective in the animals we harvest, hence the
reason why our trophy quality is so high."
"Our guides are some of
the most experienced hunters in the South Pacific. They work
together as a team to increase your chances of finding that great
trophy. During our off season (mid-August to December) most of
our guides travel to North America to guide hunters in the States
and British Colombia."

Hunting to me is more than a business, it's my life. If it's
not the hunting season in New Zealand, I'm usually overseas guiding
hunters for other companies, hunting for myself or arranging
hunts for our next season.
I've been on both sides of the
"fence" as the guide and client and I know what it
feels like to be misled. I have one main motto in life and this
is, I treat people the way I would like to be treated.
To us every hunter is different.
Everybody has different hunting styles and preferred methods
of hunting. All our hunts are custom designed to suit each hunter.
We offer a number of different hunting methods.
1. Hunting from our main lodge each day.
For people who enjoy "home comforts" while hunting.
2. 5000-7000ft spike camps.
For people wanting the more "remote" hunting experience.
3. "Helicopter day hunts" from our lodge
into our Wilderness area.
For people who want the "remote" hunting experience
but who also like to have a few home comforts at night.
4. Combination of the above three options.
In January 2006 Gary Herbert received the prestigious SCI International
Professional Hunter of the Year Award in Reno, Nevada.
Gary Herbert's first introduction to hunting was with his uncle,
burrowed in a duck blind at the age of three. Gary's life-long
passion for hunting began at this time. In 1995, at the age of
22, he was a New Zealand Professional Hunting Guide and formed
New Zealand Mounting Hunting Ltd where he continued as one of
the youngest Professional Hunting Guides in New Zealand.
Over the last 11 years, Gary has guided more than 200 successful
hunters in New Zealand, as well as assisted in guiding Marco
Polo sheep hunters in Kyrgyzstan, big horn sheep hunters in Colorado
and hunters in Alaska.
With hunting operations based in New Zealand, Gary was able to
develop hunting friends in many parts of the world. He has hunted
in Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Turkey, England, Mexico,
British Columbia and many of the lower 48 states.
Gary and his wife Louise own New Zealand Mountain Hunting Ltd.
In conjunction with their ranch, New Zealand Mountain Hunting
operates a large government concession area.
Gary is a life member of SCI and has been a long-time supporter
of SCI and the Auction Program. Gary is a member of FNAWS, Grand
Slam Club, Mule Deer Foundation and many other wildlife organisations.
His goal is to provide honest, challenging and ethical hunting
for future hunting generations. Reproduced courtesy of SCI

New Zealand Mountain Hunting
Ltd is one of the few hunting
companies in the world that has a "hunt satisfaction" policy. If you hunt with us and don't
have at least one shooting opportunity at the desired game you
came after, or find the guides, organisation and lodgings inadequate
or through any lack of effort from New Zealand Mountain Hunting
Ltd you are entitled to a full refund of your hunt payment. We
have this "hunt satisfaction" policy so people can
see how confident we are of providing
them with a high quality hunting experience.
If you are seriously thinking
about hunting New Zealand, I would suggest calling our past clients
and ask them what they thought of their New Zealand experience.
My wife Louise and myself look
forward to sharing "our" New Zealand with you.
Sincerely
Gary Herbert
